1. As discussed in class, please provide three reasons why visuals are important to web content. Please ensure you go into detail for each item. (6 Marks) 

Visuals Stick in Long-term Memory

65% of the population are visual learners (Briscoe, W9 - C - Importance of Visuals (W25), 4). That means visuals become the most important part of web content because they are more likely to be remembered in long-term memory than reading text. Humans are more capable of processing images through specific parts of the brain, making photo memory easier by linking memories with experiences and emotions, encouraging retention and recall. Visuals create much more intense feelings, which reinforce memory. A good picture of a sweet lifestyle shot of a stylish phone case would last longer in memory to increase our brand equity and consumer trust. 

They Transmit Messages Faster

Images are of great importance to web content because they communicate much faster than text. The brain has evolved for thousands of years to process images in milliseconds, whereas reading and comprehending text takes a considerably longer time. Thus, users can often find the most critical information at a glance and use images as a powerful communication medium. Infographics, for example, icons or product images, easily communicate complicated things without a long explanation. Apart from that, visuals transcend language and become a means of universal effect for diverse audiences. Fast-paced digital dimensions where users skim over content rather than read it see to it that placed-within visual elements aren't simply observed but immediately understood, increasing engagement and user experience.

Visual Cues Trigger Emotions

Visual cues are important because they create emotional triggers, setting the stand for maximal impact and memorable content. These cues create subconscious connections that affect someone's perception and decision-making. This includes colours tied to a feeling or emotion and representations through imagery.  A strong photograph of, say, a happy group sharing a fun and exciting moment with a stylish phone case creates a positive feeling toward our brand, which will enhance brand recall and engagement. It could further be stated that by employing emotionally touching visuals, websites could better connect with the audience, drive engagement, and develop loyalty.
